Have you heard about the Tech Home built in the Mall of America? I had and was super jealous. I wanted to know all about the latest and greatest gadgets from Best Buy and Samsung. Well, Santa sent his elves early this year to North Point Mall here in the Atlanta, GA area and they set up a Best Buy Tech Home. Me and the kids were beyond ecstatic to go and play…I mean preview the new items.
They recreated all a small home and previewed the latest and greatest technology products in a homelike environment and welcomed customers to touch and try everything. We were immediately greeted by experts in Blue Shirts and the Geek Squad who walked us through the home and told us all about the CE and Connected Home. They were great as always, and I must say that I’m a fan of Best Buy’s In-Home Advisors as they got us up and running with our tv’s when we moved into our new house.
As a mom of four, the Samsung SmartThings Hub immediately jumped out at me. It’s the brain of a smart home. It connects you to your family even when you’re not at home, and we all need more of that – right? It connects wirelessly with hundreds of compatible smart devices such as smart locks, lights and kid’s backpacks (but I’ll get back to that in a few). I felt like Jane Jetson walking through the Tech Home. All you need is the Samsung SmartThings Hub and the free SmartThings app, and you can customize your experience. And yes, even us non-Samsung folks can use it with our other fruity devices LOL.
As I mentioned, I’m the mom of four kids, so I need products that make being a mom easier. I really like knowing when they arrive home whether I’m out for a run in the neighborhood or on a conference call in my home office and with the Samsung SmartThings Arrival Sensor I’ll receive a notification when they arrive home. You only place the sensor on the child’s bag and voila – you’re kept in the know. And of course when you have kids regardless of their age, they’re going to leave small appliances on, but with the SmartThings Smart Outlet, I can use my smartphone to control anything plugged into via a three-prong outlet. Which for me means no more having to get up out of the best to turn off a light shining through my bedroom door from the hallway, I can just click a button on my phone, and all is well in the home.
As faithful readers of Butter and Beats, you know I love food and music, so when I realized there was a way to make my life easier in the kitchen with technology I was like a kid in a candy store.

The Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator is a must have. It does everything except cook for you. Again, I really felt like I was peeking into the world of The Jetsons. It has three built-in cameras that take a picture of the inside of the fridge and keeps an image available on the outside door as well as on an app. Not to mention it also shares multiple calendars, online grocery shopping cart, and Pandora. Seriously?! How many times have you gone to the store and you’re not sure if there are eggs, so you buy more only to get home and see you have two dozen already?
Do you have any smart appliances in your kitchen?
